Background: From the early age of four, athletics and team involvement have been a large part of Elie AkL’s life. Numerous awards and trophies have been accumulated over the years through participation in karate (black belt), soccer (club teams), swimming, and basketball (high school). In addition to athletic activities, Elie was very involved in music by playing the piano for eight years, drums for five years, violin for three years, and trombone for one year. His natural talent and ability were proven through successful performances in elementary, middle school, high school, and church events.
Dance Experience: By infusing his love for athletics and his natural musical aptitude, Elie began his dance career in Naperville, Illinois at the age of 16. Elie started training under Sam Renzetti, the director of Xtreme Dance Force, which is known as one of the most elite hip hop and jazz dance troupes in the Midwest! Elie trained in hip hop with Xtreme for six years and taught classes all over the Chicago-land area. While dancing with Xtreme, Elie competed and won countless 1st place awards and was honored with scholarship offers throughout the country. Through the course of his career he has performed and opened shows for several top recording artists such as Ludacris, Ciara, and Twista as well as being showcased in sold out shows in Las Vegas. Shortly before he left Xtreme, Elie was offered a job in Chicago to dance for the internationally broadcasted MLS All Star Game Half-Time Show on ESPN featuring top recording artist Lupe Fiasco. After Xtreme, Elie decided to make the big move out to Los Angeles to continue his focus on hip hop, jazz, and ballet. For two years Elie trained full-time at the top studios in Los Angeles including the Millennium Dance Complex, Edge Performing Arts Center and Debbie Reynolds. His desire to become one of LA’s best dancers kept him on his feet through some hard times as he was a full-time student at California State University in Long Beach finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration -- Travel & Tourism studies. After his college graduation, Elie moved to Hollywood to focus solely on his dance career. His confidence took him afar and led him to audition for one of LA’s top dance agencies, Clear Talent Group. A week after his audition, he was signed to Clear’s Dance and Print departments. Since then, Elie has performed for one of LA’s biggest shows, EVE, which was choreographed by many of LA’s most prestigious choreographers including David Moore (STEP UP 3D the movie), Bryan Tanaka (Rihanna and Beyonce), Nick Wilson (Mariah Carey and Marques Houston) , and Shaun Evaristo (Omarion). Recently, Elie had the opportunity to dance and act in Jessy J’s music video, “Tequila Moon”, which topped charts in jazz radio stations all over the west coast. His proven success and talent led Elie to receive a personal invite from director Kenny Ortega to audition for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour, and is so humbly proud to say that he experienced the presence of the “KING OF POP” and felt so honored to become one of the finalists of the audition! Recently, Mr. AkL was also honored with the opportunity to dance in and choreograph the first music video for new and upcoming artist, Vince P who is currently managed by celebrity artist Jason Derulo’s manager, Frank Harris. Be on the lookout for Vince P’s new music video called “Girls In the Club” featuring America’s Next Top Model, Jaslene Gonzalez. The video will be airing on BET and MTV very soon! Elie has also modeled for Nike where he can be seen on the cover of the 2008 issued Nike Soccer Sparq Training Catalogues. Additionally, Elie has danced and appeared in several commercials such as Geico, Fed-Ex, and Value City, to name a few. He has also been featured on TV shows including Bones, NUMB3RS, CSI Miami, CSI New York, and was also special featured in The Unit (Season 7, Episode 4).
Currently: You can catch Elie in the new Universal Picture movie, Angels & Demons, which is out in theaters now! In between studying, training, and performing dance, Elie has found time to teach master classes and choreograph routines for several competitive studios and high schools all over the United States (mainly in Northern and Southern California, Chicago, and New York). Elie’s passion and love for dance and choreography continue to be a strong, driving force in his everyday life.
